What we do

For a number of years now we’ve run Creative State and IfLooksCouldKill side by side – each an established design studio in its own right.

To simplify our set-up, Creative State will now contain our various interests and side projects, and IfLooksCouldKill will handle all design studio activity. Otherwise, it’s very much business as usual – though our ideas are anything but.

Who we are

Small and adaptable, we take a collaborative approach to working on projects, and bring you all the benefits of having a strong network of partners.

We’re particularly at home supporting clients active in the creative industries and technology, hospitality and tourism sectors.

Some of the brands we’ve created work for include Chewton Glen, Cliveden House, Glasgow School of Art, the Royal Crescent Hotel and Spa, and Scottish Borders Council.

Jonathan Smith

As Digital Director, Jonathan is responsible for ensuring that designs are faithfully translated into usable and accessible websites. He also takes the lead on digital projects, provides training for clients and oversees long-term support contracts. His more than 12 years working in digital media have given him expertise in motion graphics and online video as well as website design.

Sarah Robertson

Sarah Robertson

Creative Director Sarah Jane steers the direction of the business and coordinates the design team at IfLooksCouldKill. She draws on more than 15 years’ experience in design and marketing as she assesses the creative direction of projects and ensures their delivery on time and on budget. A career spent both client side and agency side means she appreciates the process from both perspectives.
