our people

Meet Sarah and Jonathan, your dedicated designers and project managers, and find out how we got into our careers in graphic and digital design.

Sarah Jane Robertson

Sarah is a creative director and project manager with more than 10 years’ experience in the creative and marketing industries.

Starting out her career in 2001 with Scottish Life, part of the Royal London Group, Sarah developed her design skills as part of an in-house creative marketing role. The knowledge she gained, and a flair for design, led to the launch of Creative State in 2005.

During the start-up phase Sarah worked as a freelance designer as well as directly with her own clients. Alongside other studios she produced creative solutions for companies including Scottish & Newcastle, Warburtons, RE/MAX and Rangers Lotto.

Originally from Edinburgh, Sarah set up her dedicated studio in Leeds in 2008, a move that enabled her to focus on her clients full time and travel easily to those in the north and south. Since then the business has evolved into a collaborative model whereby all projects are fully managed by Creative State.

In her spare time Sarah specialises in letterpress print design, working with geometric shapes and abstract patterns. She is a supporter Junior Chamber International (JCI), a personal development organisation for people in their 20s and 30s. As a corporate partner of the organisation, Creative State provides design services for JCI Leeds’ business projects, their chosen charities and counts JCI UK among its clients.

When she’s not designing she loves to travel, see her favourite bands and watch indie movies.
